Give Hope a Home Gala benefiting the programs of Lutheran Child and Family Services

Lutheran Child and Family Services is on a mission to Give Hope a Home in the lives of at-risk children. Sean Touhy, the real ‘dad’ in The Blind Side, will share his message of the power in giving at the LCFS fundraising gala.

Join LCFS in helping underserved children and families find hope and the help they need.

Tuohy will sign copies of “In A Heartbeat: Sharing the Power of Cheerful Giving.” A silent auction will be before and through dinner.

The VIP reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. Individual tickets for the event are $125, table sponsorships are $1200, and VIP tickets are $50. Tickets can be purchased at www.LutheranFamily.org/Gala.html.

Mutt Strut 2012 - Mojo Mongrels

Join us for the greatest spectacle in dog walking as Harrison College presents Mutt Strut 2012.

This one-of-a-kind event will bring people together from across Indiana and the country to walk the famous 2 ½ -mile oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 2011, more than 6,000 people attended to support the Humane Society of Indianapolis (IndyHumane).

This year, we hope you’ll join our team called MOJO MONGRELS.

MOJO MONGRELS are captained by Danielle Look. Feel free to contact Danielle with questions. She will also be looking for volunteers to help at the IndyMojo booth. Email her at danielle@indymojo.com.

Mutt Strut is a GREAT way to experience the famous 2 ½ -mile oval of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with almost 7,000 other furry friends as you hear "Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Paws". We’ll be there rain or shine and you can participate without a pet as well.

Have an animal that may not want to walk the full oval? We also have a one-mile short course! Strollers and wagons are also permitted on the Track. Harrison College School of Veterinary Technology organizes "Paw Check" stations in the Plaza and around the Track in case your pet needs some TLC.

When you register, you are raising funds for IndyHumane. All proceeds go to help save the lives of the more than 6,000 animals we help each year. We encourage you to get your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to support your fundraising efforts. Each animal that enters our doors receives care (including medical attention, feeding, grooming, training and other care) that averages $700. Please consider this as your personal fundraising goal. What can you do to provide the care for one animal? Check out all our easy fundraising tips to help you get started!

Once of Australia's most well-known natives, Colin Hay was born in Kilwinning, Scotland and taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 12. After moving to Melbourne in 1967 with his family, Hay met guitarist Ron Strykert and they started playing as an acoustic duo while Hay began writing songs. In 1979, Strykert and Hay were joined by drummer Jerry Speiser, sax and flautist Greg Ham to form Men At Work. Bass player John Rees joined the group months later.
Men At Work built up a strong local following and was soon signed by CBS Australia. In 1981, their first album, Business as Usual, was released and went 5X platinum within the first year, won a Grammy and sold more than 10 million copies. Their second compilation, Cargo, was another success selling more than five million albums and going multi-platinum. Hay and Ham finished one more record as Men At Work, 1985s Two Hearts, and then separated from the group.

In 1987, Hay went on to make a solo rock album for Columbia called Looking for Jack, followed by a Celtic folk influenced album for MCA record. Moving to the United States in 1989, he started his own music label called Lazy Eye Records and released eleven albums in the acoustic and rock genres. Hay recorded and produced the ten songs on the Gathering Mercury album in his home studio, with the help of drummer Randy Cooke, bassist Joe Karnes, and guitarist Sean Woostenhulme, from his touring bank and friends like bass player Jimmy Earl and pianist Jeff Babko, drummer Charlie Paxson, percussionist Luis Conte and his wife Cecilia Noel on backing vocals. The arrangements feature Hay's recognizable tenor supported by acoustic instruments and melodic electric guitar accents.
Hay toured with former band mate, Greg Ham, and backing musicians as Men At Work from 1996 to 2002, playing to near 2 billion viewers during the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He's also toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr band in 2003 and 2008 and took part in the All Starr TV special. Since 2003, Hay has had a partnership with Compass Records and is still making music.

Martin Stääf (born 13 November 1978), aka Liquid Stranger, is a Swedish-born electronic musician, described by Generation Bass as ”the epitome of Transnational Dubstep covering everything from Latin, Asian, Eastern European and Jamaican Dancehall dubs.” Martin Stääf is known for his experimental approach to composition where he merges genres to create a unique style of music.

Martin Woods of Chillbase describes Liquid Stranger's music as a “unique blend of Ambience, Big Band Jazz, Dubstep and Psychedelica drizzled over electronic Dub Reggae grooves.” Stääf lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The New Orleans-based jazz-funk ensemble Galactic formed in 1994; originally an eight-piece, the group soon pared down to an instrumental sextet comprised of guitarist Jeff Raines, organist Rich Vogel, bassist Robert Mercurio, saxophonists Ben Ellman and Jason Mingledorff, and drummer Stanton Moore. Later adding Crescent City music scene vet Theryl deClouet on vocals, Galactic built a fervent local following on the strength of a relentless live schedule that included opening slots for group heroes including the Meters, Maceo Parker, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. In 1996 Galactic issued their debut LP, Coolin' Off; upon signing to major label Capricorn, they re-released the album two years later, soon followed by the all-new Crazyhorse Mongoose. Since that time, they have released a handful of albums including Late for the Future in 2000, Ruckus in 2003, and From the Corner to the Block in 2007. The band itself released a pair of live albums of its sets at Jazz Fest in 2008 and 2009. L.A.'s Crystal Method have been referred to as America's answer to the Chemical Brothers. A dance-based electronic duo with a definite rock band feel, the comparison would seem appropriate, although it tends to erase what makes the group distinct: a solid base in American hip-hop, rock, soul, and pop. Formed in 1993 by Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, Crystal Method is the most recent stop in a string of projects that led them from their native Las Vegas (and some forgettable four-track stabs at vocal house music), to the early-'90s L.A. rave scene. Drawn in by its youthful idealism, Jordan and Kirkland became absorbed by L.A.'s underground club culture and began knocking out tracks inspired by their experiences.

On the strength of one of their demos, Crystal Method signed to Steve Melrose and Justin King's City of Angels imprint in 1994, and their debut single, "Keep Hope Alive," appeared soon after. The title was in reference to L.A.'s waning rave scene (burdened by constant police pressure and a string of random violent incidents) and became something of an anthem due to the endless barrage of remixes and alternate versions that appeared. The pair's demand to be taken seriously as a band (as opposed to the enforced anonymity of most techno acts, and something of a new concept for American dance producers) extended to incessant live performances, and Crystal Method's increasing popularity both in the clubs and among radio jocks led to a deal with Geffen affiliate Outpost Recordings in 1996. The group's debut LP, Vegas -- an unabashed party record bathed in acid, funk, rock, and big beat hip-hop -- appeared in mid-1997 and sold very well. The follow-up Tweekend was released four years later, and the duo inaugurated a series of mix albums (Community Service) in 2002. Representing Los Angeles, California, BARE aka Sean Rodela has become one of the most talked about new producers making waves on the worldwide dubstep circuit. The BARE sound is a product of deep roots in west coast hip-hop (as part of the Vital Mindz collective) and aggressive drum ‘n’ bass (as Reborn) – these influences, combined with crisp drum programming and mind altering basslines, spawn face melting dubstep anthems that almost rewind themselves. February saw BARE’s first vinyl release, the ragga-influenced dancefloor smasher ‘Culture’, on Terminal Dusk Recordings. Alongside the massive ‘Talk Too Loud’ on the flip, the release was charted by DJ’s over the world (via Chemical Records), and put BARE on the radar alongside other members of the already incendiary LA dub community.

In April THE GROUPIE LOVE LIFE EP was released on Reid Speed’s Play Me Records, and the A-side ‘Life’ instantly secured a coveted spot in the Beatport dubstep top 10 – an amazing accomplishment for a fresh producer. In the weeks to follow, ‘Life’ peaked at number four on the charts, and would continue to dominate the top ten for close to a month – the B-side ‘Groupie Love’ was never far behind. The wheels were in motion, and around the same time BARE’s tracks caught the attention of drum and bass legend Dieselboy, resulting in a massive all A-side LP being secured for the third release on SubHuman Recordings (Human’s new dubstep offshoot) later this year. More original tracks and remixes are currently confirmed for Hollow Point Rec, Buygore, Licked Beats (UK), Trillbass, Play Me, TLD and Ultragore Recordings.

BARE lives and breathes music, his studio output is staggering to even the most seasoned producers. His tunes make regular appearances in the sets of Dieselboy, Excision, Datsik, Trillbass, Downlink, Mark Instinct, and Reid Speed. Studio collaborations with Symbl, NumberNin6, 6Blocc, J Messinian, and Mark Instinct are already in the works, with many more planned for the future as time allows. As a DJ, BARE is quickly building a reputation as a tough act to follow – his sets (largely comprised of his own material) are a nonstop low end assault, fluidly mixed collections of banger after banger that reduce dancefloors to smoldering ash. BARE was recently recruited to Circle Management’s roster (alongside Datsik, Boregore, and Funtcase, to name a few) and his performance schedule is already filling up fast. It’s fair to say BARE has been on a high speed elevator to the big leagues since day one, and shows no sign of slowing down.

Energy For Life Walk- Indianapolis

We are doing our second annual walkathon for the Energy for Life Walk. It will take place on April 28th at IUPUI. Last year we were able to raise $46,000 in less than two months just between family and friends. This is a family oriented walk and will have activities for the kids and a picnic following the walk (weather permitting). The goal is to spread awareness and raise money for a cure for Mitochondrial Disease. Please help us and start a team today!
